City Institute: Career Development Workshop in Urban Studies

City Institute: Career Development Workshop in Urban Studies

We invite applicants for a 2-day career development workshop for early career urban studies scholars to be held on Thursday, November 12th and Friday November 13th, 2015, at York University. The workshop is an opportunity to consider the career development issues of most relevance to those contemplating a job search in urban studies and related academic fields.

The CITY Career Development Workshop is open to early career students and researchers (PhD students and candidates, recent PhDs, postdocs) working on critical urban topics in geography, sociology, political science, history, law, environmental studies, planning, anthropology, economics, and inter-disciplinary fields. Topics covered will include academic publishing, grant writing, preparing for interviews, research dissemination, job interview presentations, and the job search within academia and beyond. The workshop will be run as panels and sessions with contributions from established urban studies scholars, and will provide opportunities to consider the strategies, challenges, and skills needed to advance in the field.

Applications for this event are now closed.

The workshop is organized by Roza Tchoukaleyska (Postdoctoral Fellow at CITY), Alison Bain (CITY Acting Director), and Sara Macdonald (CITY Coordinator).

We acknowledge the generous support of York University Faculty of Liberal Arts and Professional Studies, Faculty of Graduate Studies, Faculty of Environmental Studies, the Department of Political Science, Department of Social Science, Osgoode Hall Law School and the Department of Geography.
